The PayPal Here service includes a free App and fully encrypted thumb-sized card reader, which turns any iPhone (and as indicated by PayPal soon on Android smartphones), into a mobile payment solution. With PayPal Here, small businesses, service providers and casual sellers can send invoices or accept cards and PayPal using one simple product.
Will be interesting to see what Apple and Google’s strategy would be like – would they lock out or restrict devices so that only their native payment technologies can be used maybe? That would be a blow to the flexibility that consumers will need but who knows…and wonder what the credit card companies are doing about all this – are the days of the plastic card numbered? Google Wallet lets you link up your Citi MasterCard securely allowing you to tap and pay via a secure chip installed on your devices. Obviously, it needs to be a Google Android device you’re on.
